What is the Beloveds' Emergency Fund?

By setting aside 5% of all donations to Shadhiliyya Sufi Communities each month, a fund of money has been created with the intention of providing emergency financial help to our brothers and sisters in the way.  We also gratefully accept donations specifically to the fund, which can be made by clicking the DONATE button to the right and selecting "Beloveds Emergency Fund" as the reason, from the drop down menu.

Who is eligible to apply?

Anyone on the path who has taken hand with Sidi is welcome to apply when an emergency/short term need arises, inshaAllah.

Where is the application?

The form for applying for assistance can be found at:

What kinds of things might fall under the category of emergencies?

If it in your heart that you are in an emergency, please reach out, and we will do our best to support you.

Initially our focus is on making sure that any money that comes into the fund through donations is put to use to help beloveds in crisis. However, as this project grows and expands, and we learn what the needs of tariqa are, we will do our best to be responsive to what arises. So please, if you have a need, let us know what it is, so that we can do our best to help, (even if you aren' t sure if it falls under the category of an emergency), so that we can begin to better understand how to help and support each other.

How does it work if I am in need and want to apply?

The process, as it is currently envisioned, is that if a need arises, a beloved completes the online application. Hopefully they would also have reached out to someone in the tariqa for support, who then could be someone that we might also work with to coordinate assistance. In addition to financial support, we might also work with the beloved and the community, as much as is feasible, to assist with additional resources or support for their particular situation. As we all walk with this process, it will certainly shift and grow with Allah's guidance and beloveds' feedback.

Who reviews the applications and how often?

Right now, we have a group of beloveds who have committed to reviewing the requests as they come in, and then meeting once a week to hold all the requests in Remembrance and seek to best align with Allah's guidance on how to disperse the available funds. Currently the meetings are planned for 10:30 am EST/7:30 am PST every Monday morning. We are hoping to be able to respond to any particular request within a week's time frame, inshaAllah.

How can I join in and help out?

If you would like to be part of a ministry team who could be called on to provide emotional and spiritual support for your brothers and sisters in need, or if you would be interested in being part of a prayer circle for the fund and its applicants, or if you would like to help in developing a tariqa wide prayer requests website, please let us know by emailing us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. If you have technical savvy with things like creating or maintaining databases, or helping to do website modifications, and would like to help with some of those aspects of this project, we would love your participation.

If you have himma to join the group who will meet weekly to review the requests, we welcome your involvement; please just let us know of your interest. Even if you can only join 1-2 times a month, you are welcome to be involved. Please let us know of your interest by sending an email to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. We also need local community members in each of the communities around the country who would be willing to assist with coordinating local help and resources. This might involve things like learning about a brother or sister in need, helping them apply to the fund, understanding what is going on for them, what kind of assistance they are needing, and assisting with coordinating support from the community. If you have himma to be available to help on the local level in any capacity to support your sisters and brothers, please let us know by emailing us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. If you have other resources that you would be willing to donate, for example, professional expertise in a certain area, or certain skills that could be beneficial to your brothers or sisters, please let us know that as well.

They ask you, [O Muhammad], what they should spend. Say, "Whatever you spend of good is [to be] for parents and relatives and orphans and the needy and the traveler. And whatever you do of good - indeed, Allah is Knowing of it." [Qu'ran 2:215]

How do I donate to the fund?

With any donation/sadaqa that you make to SSC, 5% will automatically be transferred to this fund. If you would like to make a contribution directly to and specifically for this fund, please let Laila Smith (707-965-0700 x21) know and she can assist you, or use our online donation form and select "Beloveds' Emergency Fund" as the intention at

We deeply appreciate your kindness, generosity, and support. May Allah reward and bless you abundantly!

I don’t have any money to donate right now, but I have something else I would like to donate to help, how can I do that?

Please let us know what your heart is inspired to share, and we will do our best to support your intention. Maybe you have time, skills, or things that you would like to share with other beloveds, and if so, we would love to know.
