Transform Your Stories to Embrace Truth and Freedom
Sponsored by The Jami' Initiative
How Do My Stories Influence My Reality?
Human beings are meaning-making machines. In the absence of information or understanding, we tell ourselves stories to fill in the gaps, to create meaning and understanding. Often these stories are based on misconceptions, assumptions, interpretations and misunderstandings. Yet we believe them as if they are the truth. When we tell ourselves the same stories over and over again, they start to live inside of us as the Truth. Our stories influence, impact and even distort our reality and our interactions and relationships with others.
Some experiences in our lives are more difficult and impactful than others. These can land deeply inside of our bodies and hearts, often leaving imprints and scars that affect us for a long time. When new experiences hit these imprints we respond as if the past experience is happening again in this moment. These “habits” of response limit our ability to respond to what is actually happening in front of us from a place of full presence. We often need additional support to unravel these deeper stories, support for the body, the nervous system and the heart. In this series we explore ways to soften the impact of these stories, and to help the body and heart release them.
Once we identify our stories, we can choose to challenge and transform them. When we step back, to witness the “what happened” and the “how I responded to it,” we have a chance to uncouple these two things, and to learn something new and know ourselves in a new way. We have a chance to become free of our stories, to invite a new understanding, and to step into the life that Allah offers us. Letting go of our stories transforms our relationships and gives us powerful new ways of being with ourselves and others.

Class Descriptions & Schedule
This series is comprised of eight (8) 90 minute classes taught over the course of 4 months.
Class #1: What Do We Mean By “Story?”
How do we recognize it and why does it matter?
with Nura Laird, Ruhayyah Ferrante, and Mahabbah Maryam Young
The stories we tell ourselves about what happened to us, and the meanings we assign to these stories, often shape what we experience in our daily lives. Sidi refers to this when he says someone “can still be veiled by a misconception about something from childhood which he can perpetuate (or imitate) despite his good intention” (Secrets of the Heart p.32). Together we begin to explore our stories, our traumas, and the ways they impact us; and through Allah we begin to look beyond them, in order to shift the power they have over us.
In this first class we introduce the theme of this series, provide a brief overview of the ground we plan to cover, and discuss why it’s essential to move beyond our stories for our walking and for the quality of our lives and relationships. This class begins to lay a foundation for us to live with more freedom, authenticity and truth.
Date: Thursday, April 30, 2026
Time: 3:30 pm – 5:00 pm PT / 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm ET
Class #2: Witnessing - Moving Beyond the Past Into Presence with our Lord
with Ruhayyah Ferrante
In this class we practice consciously being in the present moment as we witness the stories we carry with us from the past. What stories rule us, what patterns burden our lives and keep us prisoner? Sufism tells us we only have the present, to be the son or daughter of our moment. Yet, to be free from the past and live fully now can be a challenge when repeated patterns of thinking, speaking and behaving cover the true self.
When Allah opens up the story to The Witness, we find deep seated misconceptions and long held beliefs that keep patterns in place without our conscious consent. With the help of Remembrance and our trust in Allah, our beliefs begin to loosen their grip on us, healing becomes available, which shifts our behavior and expands our ability to choose wisely day to day without fear, without collapse, without worry.
By calling on the Divine we allow Presence to reveal how these stories impact us and others in our lives, and what new creation our hearts long for.

Class #3: The Body as a Guidepost to Allah
with Nura Laird
Our bodies are talking to us, but we often don’t hear their messages. Our stories are held in our bodies and they can have a big impact on us. Let’s track where we hold our stories in our bodies, the sensations that inform us, and unpack them to discover underlying beliefs. With great compassion and care, we can decode the messages that lie beyond our conscious awareness and uncover insights and wisdom that lead us to what Allah is making through the experiences Allah places before us. Walking in this way takes us a step closer to transformation and freedom.
Date: Thursday, May 21, 2026
Time: 3:30 pm – 5:00 pm PT / 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm ET
Class #4: Open to Love and Mercy, Let Go of Judgment, Blame & Shame
with Ruhayyah Ferrante
Have you ever caught yourself repeating the same painful story from your past? Have you wondered why you still do not feel happy or free or joyful? The beliefs contained in the painful story shape how we live our lives today. We need Allah to help us let go of blame and judgement of others and ourselves that keep us stuck. Allah gives us guides and teachings to demonstrate how to see beyond our patterns of speech, thinking, emotion, and behavior.
We can be expectant of Allah’s help, trusting Allah knows how, when, and by what means we heal. Our part is to use the tools, the practices, the teachings and be thankful. In this class we consciously commit to Allah as the Judge, Allah as our Protector, Allah as our Guide. We choose the path of Compassion and Mercy . We give ourselves what we would want for another. And we give another what we would want for ourselves. We see our beauty and how Allah created us. We trust.

Class #5: Exploring More Deeply While Being Held in the Container of Love
with Nura Laird and Mahabbah Maryam Young
While held in Allah’s love and mercy, we can dive more deeply into your own stories to discover the lessons Allah is showing you. As we let go of blame and shame, we’re able to witness more of the subtlety within. We will work together to discover our wounded parts, and then we can claim and embrace these on the way to integration and wholeness, to our fitrah, to unity. In sha’ Allah we break through into healing and transforming our painful stories. In this way we move towards who we are as Allah created us.

Class #6: Dismantling Our Stories - The Power of Choice
with Ruhayyah Ferrante
You can choose to live in your story or choose the truth of Allah. When we choose Allah, the story shifts or disappears. Maybe immediately or it may take time, we can trust that Allah helps us, and also Allah asks us to do our part. What is Allah asking of me now? Notice you have choices, discern what holds the story in place, and consciously agree to step into a deeper truth. Letting go allows Allah to step in.
Choose to notice if you are in reaction and responding from reaction.
Choose your true self in alignment with Allah over the limiting beliefs and versions of yourself or others that hold you hostage.
Choose to embrace your personal power in the situation.
Choose to receive and embody a new creation from Allah…
Date: Thursday, July 2, 2026
Time: 3:30 pm – 5:00 pm PT / 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm ET
Class #7: Align with Allah’s Truth Rather Than My Story
with Nura Laird
Falsehood parading as “truth” distorts how we know ourselves, the world, Allah, and others. Here we turn our hearts fully to receive Allah’s help to discern Allah’s Truth. Allah is always making something through everything that Allah creates. Allah ﷻ says in surah Rahman: “All those in the Heavens and the Earth ask Him. Every day He (Allah) is engaged in some affair” (Q 55:29).
Sometimes it takes interacting with another, sometimes it takes patience, and it often takes trust to understand how Allah is asking us to grow through the experiences He gives us. We discover the true message when we travel deeply into the soul, where wisdom lies. This is our journey… let’s explore what Allah is making for our walking through the story that Allah placed in our path.
Date: Thursday, July 16, 2026

Class #8: Celebrate Our True Selves and Drink From the Well of Allah’s Love
with Nura Laird, Ruhayyah Ferrante, Mahabbah Maryam Young
Let’s look back with gratitude, appreciation, and wisdom, as we reflect upon where we’ve been and the new path Allah is opening for us. Allah teaches us that when we are grateful, Allah gives us more (Q14:7).
Can we find gratitude for the challenging experiences in our past?
Can we find gratitude that we actually survived those experiences?
Can we acknowledge the ways Allah has moved us through our life?
Can we appreciate the person we have been and the person we are becoming?
What is it like to live in this new version of you?
Let’s fully embody the Divine Qualities that Allah placed in us.
Let’s celebrate living from the well of Allah’s Love!
