In the Name of Allah
Bismillah translates as “in the Name of Allah.”
For the Sufi, everything they does is for Allah. So every action is preceded by setting the intention “bismillah.” Say “bismillah” before you begin any action so that you are reminding yourself why you are going to do what you are about to do. This makes all our daily routines and activities holy and done with heartfulness.
Say “bismillah” when you first wake up, say “bismillah” when you Get out of bed, say “bismillah” as you move into another room, say “bismillah” before you eat or drink, say “bismillah” before you make a call or answer a call, say “bismillah” before you speak, before you pick up a pen, before you begin typing.
Basically you say “bismillah” any time you are about to move your limbs or open your mouth. This can be a very deep and beautiful practice but do not expect perfection, you will forget throughout the day.
Do not make it harsh, be gentle, and when you do remember, say, “bismillah” and feel the grace and holiness that accompanies your movement. Doing this practice helps increase your awareness of who you really are, a beloved servant of Allah, and keeps your intention of service woven into your actions. It will overall help you to maintain Allah-consciousness so that you can more fully live a holy life.
