What is Hijama?

Hijama, which loosely translates as “cupping,” is an ancient, prophetic healing method that has been practiced all around the world, in some places for thousands of years. A Divine remedy, hijama has come to us through all of the prophets (peace and blessings upon them all). With Allah’s help and permission, It heals the body, heart, mind, and soul.

Our guide, Sidi Muhammad (qaddasallahu sirrahu), taught groups of students how to perform hijama safely and effectively beginning in 2007. Join us in studying this highly recommended healing method immediately prior to Light Upon Light, SSC’s 2025 International Gathering in Florida, December 3-8.

The scope of practice of this Level 1 training is to perform hijama on the upper back of adolescents and adults. 

There are 12 hours of required training videos to be watched by every student prior to attending this training. 

What You Will Learn

The Holy Hijama Healing Method, originally taught by Sidi Shaykh Muhammad al-Jamal ar-Rifai’i ash-Shadhuli, is not simply a physical practice, it is a holy and spiritual practice. Sidi also encouraged the faculty to deepen and expand the training to meet professional standards, so building on our experience in Texas in 2024, the curriculum has been expanded and revised in order to build a strong foundation for you to begin your practice of hijama.
 
We are offering a 25+ hour professional training in the HHHM which includes 12+ hours of didactic videos and two full days of intensive hands-on training and practice. The videos will provide a necessary foundation to step into the hands-on component of the training, and are a necessary prerequisite to attend the in person training. During the in person training you will have a chance to give and receive hijama twice in a closely supervised training environment with individual and group feedback.
 
You will learn about the HHHM and what makes it unique, will be supported in your journey to become a HHHM practitioner, will become comfortable discussing hijama with clients, gain valuable interview skills, receive a deeper understanding of the history and lineage of this tradition, as well as the practical skills of how to perform the HHHM. We have also updated the training materials to include a comprehensive intake and consent form with clear guidelines on when to consult before offering hijama to a higher-risk client, as well as a discussion about licensing, payment for your services, maintaining a safe and hygenic treatment space, and reducing risk of blood borne pathogens.
 
This Level 1 HHHM Training is intended for people who want to start offering hijama or for people who want a refresher so they feel more confident and competent to offer hijama. When you finish the Level 1 training, you will have the skills and confidence needed to perform the HHHM using points on the mid and upper back on adolescents and adults, including sunnah points. Future opportunities will include a Level 2 HHHM Practitioner Training, as well as an opportunity to become a fully certified HHHM Practitioner. Upon successful completion of the training requirements you will receive a certificate indicating that you are a Level 1 HHHM Practitioner.
 
In accordance with the tradition introduced by our guide Sidi Muhammad al-Jamal ar-Rifai’i ash-Shadhuli, the faculty will donate a portion of the proceeds from this training as sadaqah (a charitable donation to the poor or needy) as a prayer for benefit for everyone involved in the training.
