Peace & Unity
Last month, SSC contracted with the Centre for Peaceful Solutions to begin a program where SSC will be working with the University of Sufism, ISH, Murshid Council, Farm of Peace, and the Ansar Council to help learn and practice the skills needed to promote more unity in our community. This training and collaboration will start in January and run through March of this year. Insha’allah, this will bring more seeds of hope, peace and unification across our community.
New Website
This new website you are visiting now. This site has been a dream for a few years now. Work began a year ago and here we are. Alhamdhulillah, may it serve all the beloveds and also work to unify and strengthen our community. Much appreciation to Shamsa Hyllmon, Sukayna Mau, Jannah Godlas, and Abdul Latif Howard for the year of work that made this all possible.
New Initiatives
The Unity Project
The Unity Project is SSC’s new offering: Peacemaking Resources. This is a collaboration with the Ansar Council, Nura Laird, Abdul Qadir Davis, and others. We are pulling together resources to make available for beloveds who are dealing with conflicts within their families or work that may require some outside help. Learn more about being a participant here. Learn more about being a facilitator here.
Walking Groups
This will be an opportunity for beloveds to join in small groups to share in the challenges and joys of walking in the Sufi way. It is an opportunity to receive support and an opportunity to offer support as a facilitator. Learn more about being a participant here. Learn more about being a facilitator here.
Reading & Writing Groups
Similar to the Walking groups, this is an opportunity to work in small groups, reading writing and reflecting on the teachings in Music of the Soul and other books from our guide. Learn more about being a participant here. Learn more about being a facilitator here.
Masjid ash-Shadhiliyya
Our newly established eMasjid on this website. This is a collaborative project bringing together Imam Sa’id Bin Yunus, Chaplain Amany Shalaby, Imam Abdul Karim Pickney, Imam Mohammad Yetkin, and SSC to offer guidance and resources to help answer all your questions related to fiqh, Qur’an, and the sunnah of our Prophet, as well as understanding the teachings of Sufism brought by our guide Sidi.
The Janazah Project
A request has arisen from our community that reveals a real need, that we obtain some training regarding how to care for the dying, preparing the body for burial, and the general Janazeh funeral process for our beloveds. So, an active process has begun to find the way to acquire this training (possibly at no charge) for those in our ummah who may, insha’allah, have the himma for such a ministry. Our vision would is to have at least a few beloveds, both male and female, in most local Sufi communities who are trained and available to respond when families request this kind of support. If you are interested in learning more about how you can participate, please contact Sukayna Mau and a member of our task force will reach out to you.
Ongoing Projects
The Land ~ SSC is continuing to find a wise and sustainable way to cultivate new hope at the Land in Pope Valley, CA. There are some beautiful seeds of himma rising in the soil of the Land. SSC intends to make way for grassroot initiatives that include permaculture, community building and collaborations with other souls that share Sidi’s vision, insha’allah. We have formed a new Land Committee to look into options.
We are still working out a final settlement with our insurance claim post fire to cover clean up cost and final payout.
Sohbet ~ Monthly Community Sohbet, now moved to the second Monday of every month.
Jerusalem ~ We are working to establish a cleaner, more transparent and efficient we to get Jerusalem donations delivered to serve the poor and needy as intended by our guide Sidi, with the help of his family.
Programming ~ The SSC Programming Committee is already planning for the annual events that we have all grown to appreciate and rely upon. Next is Part 2 of the special peacemaking offerings we started in December with Nura Laird. Then 1 Rajab, expected to arrive around February 2nd, followed by 27 Rajab (around February 28th), Mid Shaban (around March 19th) and Ramadan which is due to arrive around April 2nd. We could use some help with planning and hosting these events. Please contact us if you feel called to pitch in for the sake of community and to please Allah swta.
Busy bees ~ These are the main highlights, but honestly, SSC and its various committees are hard at work all the time with many other smaller challenges and hopes. There is plenty of meaningful ways to give back to community and safeguard Sidi’s mission, if you are called to be apart of the overflow of hope and beauty emerging from the hearts of beloveds, come and join us or become a donor and pledge monthly support so we can keep doing what we are doing, insha’allah.
